Pros And Cons Of IDF Soldiers Posting On TikTok
The article satirizes Israel’s unjust genocide against the Palestinians and how theyromanticize it through their TikTok propaganda. It does this by providing a satirical slideshow of the pros and cons of Israel's TikTok usage.
1. Pro: "Keeps them busy."
The author asserts through this sarcasm that the IDF doesn't actually need to be kept busy since they are busy blowing up the homes of the Palestinians.
2. Con: "It’s usually considered smarter not to post the evidence online."
Although the IDF may think that they are revealing evidence that would convince the world to align with their cause, the author argues that they are actually providing evidence that is harmful to their perspective. By utilizing the common conception that evidence shouldn't be posted online, the author illustrates how Israel is promoting evidence against itself in the media.
3. Pro: "Already sent millions in U.S. aid for IDF dance classes."
The author criticizes both the US aid toward Israel’s genocide against the Palestinians and Israel’s use of TikTok dances to spread propaganda. On the news, we hear that the US sent aid to protect Israel from Hamas, however, the author suggests that the US and Israel were aware that this money would be used cynically. Although it is not actually dance classes, it is the destruction of the Palestinians.
4. Con: "Flossing on rubble super difficult."
The author mocks the way that soldiers are using the destruction they caused to dance and create content for views and likes - they are making a joke out of the very real genocide happening around them. This calls attention to the IDF's extreme brutality.
5. Pro: "Convenient place to collect evidence for future trials in the Hague."
This allusion to the UN International Court of Justice and South Africa's allegation against Israel once again emphasizes that the IDF's TikTok videos are only contributing to their own demise and further public pushback against their actions. There is no excuse or justification for genocide.
I really liked how you analyzed each point of The Onion's list and revealed what they were truly criticizing under the satire.
